Nana

155 Fifth Ave @ St. Johns Place, Brooklyn

There are very, very few Pan-Asian restaurants in this country that know how to make an authentic stir-fry, with a wok so hot that the oil takes on a smoky flavor and the soy sauce caramelizes as it runs down the side. Nana is one of them. Though their ample, delicious stir-fried noodle dishes are listed at the bottom of the menu and priced like sides, I would recommend the "angel hair noodles" (actually Singapore noodles) and the "flat noodle hot pot" (actually a Penang-style kueh tiao) over just about any other Asian food in the vicinity, including Geido. Center stage are the more fanciful inventions, I like their duck spring roll appetizer and their signature sushi rolls. Their cocktails menu is lengthy and extravant, but I haven't tried any yet.

Beautiful, simple industrial decor, sweet-natured service, affordability, and a low-key, kid-friendly vibe combine to make this my absolute favorite restaurant in the city.
