Birthday
Turned 27 today. A good day that began with Lauren and Mike picking us up to drive to Flushing ("Flushing: Destination of Choice") where we ate dim sum and saw a blinky red-nosed Jesus plaque. Tried the Wild Lily Tea Room. Got birthday calls or emails from a couple very nice friends and family who are super cool thank you. Went to see ASSSCAT at the UCB Theatre. and saw Ian Roberts and Matt Walsh live for the first time(!!) perform alongside Rob Heubel, et al. with lots of improvised jokes about kid-killing and animal semen. Finished Eric the Unready, and have new birthday CDs to listen to. It was fun. Thank you.
I have to admit, it's disconcerting to be moving out of my mid-twenties and to see my skin changing and the little pouches under my eyes show up more days than not. But, being a real grownup is great. I finally feel good about my clothes, my smile, the things I like, the way I act. The only problem is applying myself. I wish I worked harder - both at my job and at my real life. This year I:
- Orchestrated a big cross-country move with A.
- Threw my first real party, the good-by party.
- Got sparkly awesome wonderful super-challenging new job.
- Managed work-related traveling, car rental, several trips for weddings, recruiting trips, visited friends, interviewed dozens and dozens of people, server launches at work, all scary stuff.
- Nudged along the Herseth, Chandler (sigh) Kerry elections with a little financial aid and volunteer work.
- Started to find a few friends in New York . . .
And next year I hope to:
- Start writing more again. Blog, whatever.
- Reapply that old intellect and exercise even those interests that aren't directly aligned with my id's.
- Start exercising regularly. Must stay trim and spry.
- Get married!
