The Clerk's Tale

Book roundup:

Jeffrey Steingarten is my new patron saint and I would like to insist that everyone I know read his books.

Despite the hype The Clerk's Tale appeared to be very good.

Probably a mistake to have bought City of Words (I am bad at reading philosophy) but I'm a sucker for anything having to do with screwball comedy.

Also, i would like to mention that a certain "#1 Chinese Restaurant" on the Lower East Side doesn't even crack the top 100 - though the food was okay, its name's promise of authenticity is an empty one. No self-respecting Chinese restaurant would serve salmon with a side salad. Later I looked at the waitstaff and chefs and realized that I was the only Asian person in the entire restaurant. And, to add insult to injury, the fortune in my cookie was a quote from Steppenwolf!

steingarten *is* looking for an assistant, see mediabistro.

Hey, I tried to give it away. But there were no takers. Then, yeah, I suppose I should have sent it to the 1000 Journals people. Which is what I am going to do now.
