The sun shone, the river ran, the lilies bloomed in my hands. Whatever the judge said I didn't hear. I looked across the microphone at my husband and suddenly the garden disappeared, and all the rows of family and friends in white garden chairs disappeared, and it was just me and him in a brilliant patch of light saying tender things to each other.

It seemed as though we had always been saying them. It felt as natural as being. It seemed to stretch back into the past before the day we met and out into the future farther than I could see.
